The Boerne Independent School District announced new principals at three campuses for the 2022-23 academic year. The appointments were shared during the BISD board of trustees meeting on Monday.
The new campus leaders are Beto Hinojosa, Champion High School; Kathy Cornett, Voss Middle School; and Jennifer Escamilla, Kendall Elementary School.
“This is an exciting time for Boerne ISD, along with Champion, Voss, and Kendall, to welcome extraordinary principals to their campuses, all of whom have deep roots in our community,” Boerne ISD Superintendent Thomas Price said. “Beto, Kathy and Jennifer are all exemplary leaders, but are even better human beings. Having been a part of our community for many years, they share the same values as their friends and neighbors in Boerne and understand the culture of excellence at Boerne ISD.”
Hinojosa has been an administrator in Boerne ISD for the past 12 years. He was the first-ever principal at Voss Middle School, where he has served since the campus opened in 2019. He also has served as principal at Fabra Elementary, assistant principal at Boerne Middle School North and as Boerne ISD’s Title IX coordinator.
While at North, Hinojosa was selected as the Texas Assistant Principal of the Year. During his leadership tenure at Boerne ISD, his campuses have received multiple Texas Education Agency distinction designations in academic performance and in closing performance gaps.
Most recently, Voss Middle School was named a Texas School to Watch and National Model School. In the 2021-2022 school year, Hinojosa attended the Thompson Executive Leadership Academy, a competitive and prestigious program for top educational leaders in the state.
“It will be an absolute privilege to continue building on the successes built at CHS since 2008,” Hinojosa said. “Having been in Boerne for the last 12 years, I have had a front-row seat to the hard-working students and teachers, incredibly supportive community of parents, families, businesses and local organizations that help make CHS a Champion in education. “
Prior to his time in BISD, Hinojosa’s career took him to Lake Travis ISD, where he taught and coached, and Damon ISD, where he served as principal and athletic director.
In his free time, he said he enjoys spending time with his family – wife Mariana and children Liam, Luca and Annick.
Current Champion Principal Bill Daniels will retire at the end of the school year after nearly 40 years of service in the education field. Daniels was named Champion principal in July 2021. He and his wife, Glenda, said they are looking forward to spending their retirement in Boerne.
“We are extremely happy for Bill and Glenda to start the next chapter of their lives,” Price said. “Bill came in and did a fantastic job at Champion. His leadership skills are second to none. We wish him and Glenda all the best in retirement.”
Cornett, the new Voss Middle School principal, has served Boerne ISD since 2007, all at Boerne High School. She taught math at BHS from 2007 to 2019 before moving into administration there three years ago, first as an assistant principal and currently as the academic dean.
This is Cornett’s 19th year in education. She began her career as a math teacher at Judson High School and then taught math at Arlington High School before moving to Boerne High School in the fall of 2007.
As a lifelong learner, she has a master of business administration degree, 18 graduate hours in applied statistics and a master’s in educational leadership.
“I could not be more excited to join the ranks the Voss Eagles,” she said. “I look forward to keeping the traditions of excellence alive and working with our staff and community to help students soar.”
Cornett and her husband, John, have two children, Byron “Connor” and Kylie.
Escamilla comes to Boerne ISD after spending nearly 20 years as an administrator and teacher in Northside ISD. She has spent the last six years as principal at Meadow Village Elementary School, which recently was named a Capturing Kids’ Hearts Showcase campus. It was the only NISD campus to receive the honor.
Prior to that, she served five years as associate principal at Mary Hull Elementary School, a bilingual campus, and taught third grade for six years at Powell Elementary School.
“I am thrilled to lead the Kendall Knight family and look forward to building strong partnerships within the Boerne community,” she said.
Escamilla is an 18-year resident of Boerne. Her children, Grayson and Riley, currently attend Boerne Middle School North and are alumni of Curington Elementary.
She was a member of the NISD Strategic Design Team, served as a mentor to other principals and piloted the work of Instructional Rounds. Escamilla said she believes that building strong relationships within the school community is the cornerstone of a positive campus culture.
Boerne ISD opens the 2022-23 school year on Aug. 10.
