Thomas “Tom” Mansfield Page passed away peacefully in his home in Boerne, Texas on May 11, 2022. He was born in Atmore, Alabama, February 4, 1931, to Glenn Keith Page and Ruth Elizabeth Mansfield.
Tom was preceded in death by daughter Betty Steubing; his parents; his sister Alice Rhodes; and brothers George Keith Page and Glenn Alan Page. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Irene Orr Page; brother-in-law Walton Orr (Sharon); daughter Irene Page Robbins (Mike); son Thomas Mansfield Page Jr. (Jacque); son-in-law Darrell Steubing, six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
Tom loved the outdoors from childhood and excelled in team and individual sports throughout his life. He was one of the first athletes inducted into the Baldwin County High School Hall of Honor. He graduated from Auburn University in 1952, and worked there as a graduate coaching assistant for football and baseball.
He and his wife, “Sweet,” moved across the South, raising their family while Tom coached at junior colleges in Mississippi and at McNeese State University before finishing his career at Sam Houston State University. He was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Honor at SHSU in 1987.
After retiring from coaching, Tom began and ran a general contracting business in San Antonio. Upon retirement, Tom took up golf and will be a legend at the Fair Oaks Ranch courses for years to come.
Tom and Sweet enjoyed traveling and made many memorable trips to Europe, China and throughout the United States. Tom and his children and friends fished and hunted together throughout Texas, and he was renowned for his story-telling and jokes wherever he went. In his final years of retired life, Tom and Sweet lived in the retirement community of Menger Springs surrounded by wonderful friends and supportive staff there.
The family would like to thank the caring and professional staff at Transcend Hospice and Senior Buddies for their part in helping Tom in his final days.
A Celebration of Life will be held at St John’s Lutheran Church in Boerne at 11 a.m. May 20.
