Lady Greyhounds defeat Davenport, 67-16

The Boerne High girls basketball team hosted Davenport as they continued district play and Tuesday’s contest at Greyhound Gym turned into a lopsided win for the Lady Hounds.

The Boerne High girls basketball team hosted Davenport as they continued district play and Tuesday’s contest at Greyhound Gym turned into a lopsided win for the Lady Hounds.

Boerne High defeated Davenport, 67-16, and improves to 22-3 overall and 2-0 in district. They host Canyon Lake Friday, 6:30 p.m.

BHS was up 8-0 in the first two minutes and was leading 15-4 at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Hounds pulled away in the second period when they outscored their opponents 25-4 for the 40-8 halftime lead.

Davenport’s 4 points in the second stanza all came at the free-throw line as they went 4 for 6 at the stripe and didn’t hit a field goal. They finished the game shooting under 15 percent from the field.

Boerne began the third quarter with a 17-0 run to bury Davenport and open up a 57-8 advantage. Davenport only managed 2 points in the period and Boerne’s lead was 58-10 by the time the game went to the final stanza.

In the fourth quarter, BHS outscored DHS, 9-6, to close it out.

Averi Aaron led all scorers with 21 points in just 16 minutes of work and Jamie Ruede added 17 points in 21 minutes of action to make it two Lady Hounds in double figures.

Abby Smith and Savannah Salinas both netted 6 points apiece, Hannah Rocchio chipped in with 5, Jordyn Lemm had 4, Sushanna Cobb tallied 3, Jenna Ruede and Leila Johnson both scored 2 and Liz Fox hit a free throw and led the team on the boards with 7 rebounds.

Smith grabbed 6 rebounds, Lemm had 5 boards and 3 steals, Jamie Ruede recorded 5 steals and 4 assists, while Jenna Ruede dished out 3 assists.

THE BOERNE HIGH BOYS WERE SCHEDULED TO PLAY TUESDAY AT PEARSALL BUT THE CONTEST WAS CALLED OFF BY PEARSALL BECAUSE OF COVID-19 ISSUES.
