Champion boys close first round of district by crushing Canyon

Boerne Champion closed out the first round of District 26-5A boys basketball Tuesday night by hosting New Braunfels Canyon at Charger Gym.

Champion crushed the Cougars, 80-55, and closes out the first round of league play at 7-1.

The Chargers are 20-5 overall and off Friday. They resume district play Tuesday at Dripping Springs.

Champion shot it well from the outside and knocked down 15 3-pointers in the game.

Jesse Peart was 6 of 9 from long range and tallied 31 points in the win, while Braden Baum hit two 3s and finished with 22 points.

Braxton Burdick hit a 3 and scored 7 points, Owen Tate drained a pair of 3s and scored 6, while Hunter Lampkin also hit two 3s and scored 6, Charlie Georgelos netted 5 points and sank a 3-pointer, Alex Gonzalez made the only 3 he attempted and finished with 3 points.

Baum, Georgelos and Justin Hill all pulled down 5 rebounds and Burdick grabbed 4 boards, had 5 assists and 4 steals, while Georgelos dished out 8 assists and Peart came up with 3 steals.
