Boerne softball beats Blue Jays, faces Columbia next

The Boerne softball team mowed down another opponent in the playoffs, this time it was Needville that was swept by the Lady Greyhounds team that is 4-0 in the postseason.

The Boerne softball team mowed down another opponent in the playoffs, this time it was Needville that was swept by the Lady Greyhounds team that is 4-0 in the postseason.

Boerne beat the Blue Jays by 7 runs in both games and took Game 1 on Friday, 9-2, and 12-5 on Saturday to close it out in La Grange.

BHS improves to 28-5 and faces Columbia in the third round. The Lady Hounds return to La Grange to face the Lady Necks. Game 1 is Friday at 7 p.m., and Game 2 is Saturday at 10 a.m. A third game will follow if necessary.

It was hot in Saturday afternoon’s contest and the Boerne bats heated up as well and knocked out 18 hits. BHS scored 3 in the second and 5 in the third for the 8-2 lead. The Hounds added another run in the fourth for the 9-2 edge. Both teams accounted for 3 runs in the fifth and didn’t score after that.

Brooke Sivek finished with 5 hits, 2 RBI and 3 runs scored, Heidi Maytum hit a homer, drove in 4 runs and scored once; Cameron Cooper and Ava Rodriguez both singled; Reese Wilson hit 2 singles and drove in a run; Madi Dorrow singled and scored, Taryn Madlock hit 2 singles and scored twice; Ava Nieto had 2 singles and scored a run; Taylor Wilson doubled and singled, pushed in 2 runs and scored 2 runs, while Shelby Wright and Morgan Duty both plated a run.

Dorrow went the distance in the circle and picked up the win on 100 pitches. She fanned 6, walked 2, gave up 5 hits and 4 earned runs.

Game 1

Both teams had 8 hits in Friday’s game, but Boerne pushed in 9 runs.

Ava Rodriguez put BHS on the board with a sac fly in the first inning but Needville answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third for the 2-1 lead.

From there, the Lady Hounds didn’t allow another run and scored 2 in the fourth and fifth frames, followed by 7 in the seventh.

In the fourth, Madi Dorrow and Taryn Madlock hit back-to-back homers for the Hounds.

Madlock also knocked one out of the park in the seventh with a 3-run shot.

Madlock finished with 4 RBI on her 2 dingers, Dorrow drove in 2 runs, Brooke Sivek scored twice; Heidi Maytum and Rodriguez both singled, with Rodriguez finishing with 2 RBI.

Reese Wilson hit 2 singles and scored a run, Taylor Wilson singled and scored and Shelby Wright plated a run.

Rodriguez was the winning pitcher and yielded 8 hits, 2 runs and 2 walks to go with 3 Ks.
