The Geneva School of Boerne softball team took on Corpus Christi Incarnate Word last week and lost, 9-5, to slip to 6-7 overall.

The Eagles have a game with TMI – Episcopal on Tuesday and will need some help if they’re going to make the playoffs this year.

Incarnate Word scored 3 runs in the second, but the Eagles answered with 3 in the top of the third, however IW fired back with 3 more in the bottom of the frame for the 6-3 lead and never trailed from there.

Incarnate Word added another run in the fifth and 2 more in the sixth to open up a 9-3 advantage.

Geneva made a push in the top of the seventh and knocked in 2 runs in the inning but that’s where the rally ended.

The Eagles bats were held in check and they only recorded 4 hits in the game, compared to 13 for IW.

Sydney Griffey recorded 2 hits with a triple and a single, while driving in 2 runs and scoring once after stealing home. Alexa Elizondo doubled and scored and Maegan Riebel singled to account for the team’s 4 hits.

Kate Friesenhahn and Madeline Egbert both walked and scored once, while Maggie Chisholm plated a run.

Egbert threw 110 pitches in the game for Geneva and gave up 13 hits, 8 earned runs, 5 walks and had 1 strike out.
