Both the Champion boys and girls varsity track and field teams placed 2nd at last week’s Area meet and advanced several to this weekend’s Region IV-5A meet at Heroes Stadium.
Regionals was held at New Braunfels Canyon and the girls scored 78 points and the boys tallied 83 points.
At Area for the boys, Arlis Adickes qualified in the 100 after he was 2nd and Brock Lewis advanced in the 110 and 300 hurdles after placing 2nd in the 110 and 4th in the 300.
All three relays made it after the 4x100 of Corbin Mitchell, Arlis Adickes, Alex Rodriguez and Sawyer Bolli came in 4th, while the 4x200 of Caleb Smith, Adickes, Rodriguez and Mitchell placed 3rd to advance and so will the 4x400 of Ranger Lewis, Brock Lewis, Bolli and Ben Blomqvist after they were 3rd.
Like Rossi advances in the pole vault after he was 3rd, Brock Lewis was 4th in the long jump, Hayden Brace placed 3rd in the triple jump and Connor Warzecha won the discus to move on.
Also, Ephraim Tonn-Bourg made it in the 100 and 400 wheelchair events.
On the girls side, Mad ison Meinke moves to regionals in the 100 dash after she placed 4th, Chachi Gonzales won the 1600 and also advances in the 800 and 3200 after she was 2nd in those two events, while Kate Williams also qualified in the 3200 after she was 4th and Addison Hankins made it in the 100 hurdles after she took 3rd.
Champion’s 4x400 of Addison Hankins, Regan Garcia, Meghan Huerta and Riley Burkey placed 2nd to move on, while Burkey also qualified in the high jump and long jump after she was 3rd in both events.
