Even though Hyde Park was outhit by the Geneva School of Boerne softball team in Friday’s game, 15-5, the Panthers played the Eagles close and made it interesting, however Geneva was still able to pick up the 8-5 win.
The Eagles improved to 6-6 overall. They are scheduled to visit Incarnate Word on Tuesday.
Friday’s game was tied at 2-2 when Geneva batted in the bottom of the fourth and scored 4 runs for the 6-2 lead.
The Panthers added single runs in the fifth and sixth and it was 6-4, but Geneva plated 2 more runs in the sixth and pulled ahead 8-4.
Hyde Park went down swinging and hit a solo homer in the seventh to make it 8-5. The Panthers put two runners on with one out, which means they brought the tying run to the plate, but the Geneva defense worked to get the next two outs and end the game.
Alexa Elizondo finished with 2 doubles, 3 RBI and scored a run, Sydney Griffey doubled and hit 2 singles, Maegan Riebel doubled, singled and scored 2 runs, Kate Friesenhahn hit 2 singles, Brynn Riebel and KK Chisholm both knocked out 2 singles and scored once, while Maggie Chisholm singled and scored a run.
Madeline Egbert went the distance and threw 120 pitches. She gave up 5 hits, 2 earned runs, walked 5 and struck out 6.
