14-9
Alamo Heights’ 14-9 win over the Boerne High softball team Tuesday puts the Lady Greyhounds and the Lady Mules into a three-way tie for fifth place in 26-5A, along with Boerne Champion.
BHS, Champion and the Mules all have five wins and are all chasing New Braunfels for the fourth and final postseason spot up for grabs as the regular season winds down this coming week.
Boerne is 5-9 in district and 10-8 overall. They were off Friday and play Pieper and New Braunfels next week.
The funny thing about Boerne, Champion and Alamo Heights is that Boerne swept Champion, Champion swept Alamo Heights and Heights swept Boerne this season.
The Mules were up 8-5 after three innings but scored the next 6 runs, with 3 in the fourth and 3 in the fifth to build a 14-5 advantage and were in danger of run ruling the Lady Greyhounds.
Boerne tried to mount a comeback and knocked in 3 runs in the bottom of the sixth and it was 14-8.
The Lady Hounds were looking for one of those late pushes they’ve been known for in the bottom of the seventh, but the rally came up short.
BHS put its first batter on, Ryleigh Hastings, with a single but the next two batters were retired to put the Mules one out away from winning it.
Tessa Murphy doubled to bring in Hastings and it was 14-9, but that’s where the rally ended after the next batter hit a deep pop up to left field for the third out.
The teams combined for 31 hits, with the Mules bang-ing out 15 of them, including 2 home runs, while the Lady Hounds tallied 15 hits.
Seven of Boerne’s hits were doubles from Ava Renteria, Breanna Krause, Brooklyn Thomason, Lizzy Thornton and Riley Partin, while Murphy slapped out a pair of doubles and finished with 3 hits.
Jesseanna Aguirre tossed 124 pitches in the game for the Lady Hounds.
