BLANCO – Boerne Champion sent two boys teams and an individual to last week’s District 26-5A golf tournament held at the Vaaler Creek Golf Course.
Each of the nine schools is allowed two teams at district and six of the schools sent two teams and another school sent one team, while two other schools didn’t send full teams for a total of 13 full squads at the full.
Champion was one of those that sent two teams, plus one individual golfer to the event.
Champion 1 finished 5th with a 648 (317,331) and Champion 2 scored a 697 (329,368) for 8th, while the Chargers also had one individual golfer play after Everett Christian posted a 199 with rounds of 99 and 100.
For Champion 1, Matthew Mendoza had the team’s best finish after he carded a 157 with rounds of 75 and 82 and just missed out on advancing as an individual by a few strokes.
Also for Champion 1, Tristan Frantz shot a 162 (78,84), Chase Knight finished with a 164 (82,82), Dylan Buckley scored a 165 (82,83) and Aidan Taylor rounded out the team at 168 (82,86).
For Champion 2, Gavin Tavitas-Steele paced the team with a 162 (79,83), Jack Thomas shot a 175 (77,98), Ryan Weaver posted a 184 (87,97), Truitt Tucker finished with a 186 (86,100) and Boden Bouslog carded a 187 (97,90).
At district, the top two teams and top two individual finishers not on an advancing team head to regionals, which is set for next week in McAllen.
