Shirley Ann Ballard Phillips

Shirley Ann Ballard Phillips

December 10, 1933 – April 6, 2022

Shirley Ann Ballard Phillips was called home on April 6, 2022. One of three children, Shirley was born on December 10, 1933, in Marshall, Texas. She was a lifelong Texan and a resident of Boerne, Texas, for 33 years.

She met the love of her life, Donald D. Phillips, in 1954, and after a two-year courtship they married on August 17, 1956, in Houston, Texas. She worked as a secretary in the Chemistry Department at Texas A&M University in College Station while Don completed his degree. They lived a wonderful, adventurous life together in Houston and then Boerne, Texas.

Shirley loved her dogs, camping with her family, cooking, gardening, reading, crafting and taking care of her friends and family. In addition to running her own small business within the Decorating Den Corporation, Shirley was also the founding member of the Trailwood Garden Club which for many years focused on beautification projects in the Boerne area.

She also shared her love with the children of Casa De Esperanza in San Antonio and was encouraged by her ability to support these children when they needed it most. Shirley touched the lives of many people with her smile, creativity and generosity. Her love and concern for all people was phenomenal.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Lena Elizabeth West and John Woodie Ballard; her sister, Martha Ballard Alexander; and sister-in-law, Audrey Ballard. She will be forever remembered by her beloved husband, Donald D. Phillips; her son, John David Phillips and his wife, Karina Phillips; her daughter, Carla Ann Phillips; and her granddaughter, Samantha Jillian Phillips. She is also survived by her brother, James Woodie Ballard; brother-in-law Ronald Alexander; nieces Cynthia Barnes Raiford and Lisa Ballard; nephews Jimmy Ballard and Chris Ballard; several great nieces and nephews; and countless other friends and family who were blessed to care for her and know her wonderful sense of humor.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Methodist Hospital, San Antonio, for the loving care given to Shirley in her time of need.

Mrs. Phillips wished for no memorial service or sadness. Instead she asked that everyone celebrate her life.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation at https://give.bcrf.org or Kendall County Animal Shelter & Adoption Center at 830-537-3430. These are both causes that were close to Shirley’s heart.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2022, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Ebensberger-Fisher Funeral Home.
