KO Cheer recently attended the largest cheer competition in the country at the National Cheerleaders Association event in Dallas that brought together more than 30,000 athletes, 1,800 teams and representatives from 45 states and 9 countries and is one of the most prestigious events in the cheerleading world.
The KO Cheer Mini Brawlers, ages 8-10, competed in the Level 1, D2 division and shattered records by earning a score of 98.3, the highest ever for the team and in the process, they beat 11 other squads from various states around the country to take the title.
Of the 1,800 teams present at the event, the Mini Brawlers score ranked as the 61st best score regardless of age group.
KO Cheer owner Kelly Owen said this group put themselves in the record books.
“To say this is a monumental achievement is an understatement. These athletes, coaches and their families worked tirelessly to get to this point and it’s an accomplishment that will be forever etched into KO Cheer history,” she said.
Because there was an active shooter scare at the event in Dallas that only proved to be a couple of dads fighting and knocking things over, the awards ceremony was cancelled.
Instead, there was a celebration in Boerne on Tuesday, March 4, at the KO Cheer headquarters off IH-10 where there was a trophy/jacket ceremony before family, friends and other guests. There were plenty of pictures taken as well.
KO Cheer was started in 2010 and has 250 athletes ranging from 3 to 18 years of age. They offer preschool tumbling to elite tumbling classes, sideline and high school cheer prep, clinics, jump classes and top-tier competitive All-Star teams.
