Kerrville Tivy handed the Boerne High baseball team its only district loss of the season so far but the Greyhounds were able to avenge that setback by defeating the Antlers Tuesday night in Boerne.

BHS took Tuesday’s low-scoring contest vs. Tivy, 3-0, to split their season series with the Antlers.

The Greyhounds are 7-1 overall and 2-1 in district after Tuesday. The Hounds were entered in the San Marcos tournament this weekend.

They’ll resume district action and play two with Veterans Memorial this coming week. BHS hosts the Patriots Tuesday and plays at Veterans Memorial Friday. Both games are set to start at 1 p.m.

Jackson Grimes had a great outing on the mound. He only gave up one hit, no walks or runs and struck out 9 batters to get the win.

Tivy’s only hit didn’t come until the seventh inning. Prior to that, the Antlers only had two base runners, one who reached on a dropped third strike in the sixth and another on an error in the fourth.

Offensively, the Greyhounds scored single runs in the second, fourth and fifth frames and 3 of their 5 base hits went for extra bases.

In the bottom of the second, Ryan Hooper tripled and scored on a wild pitch for the 1-0 advantage.

The Hounds added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth frame. Dylan Perez walked to start the inning but the next two batters were retired by Tivy pitcher James Riley with a fly out and a ground out.

Dylan Perez stole second and advanced to third on the ground out and later scored on a Jake Perez single to make it 2-0.

BHS padded its lead in the fifth after Brooks Perez doubled and came home on a Dylan Perez triple to bump the lead to 3-0.

Tivy’s only hit that came in the seventh occured with two outs after Grimes struck out the first two batters he faced. After Robert Johnson singled, Grimes ended it with his ninth strike out of the game on his 80th pitch.
