The Champion baseball team bounced back from last Tuesday’s loss at Alamo Heights and defeated Veterans Memorial at home last Thursday.
Champion beat the Patriots, 9-2, and improves to 12-9 overall and 6-6 in district. They visit Lehman on Tuesday and host Seguin Friday.
Veterans Memorial scored first in the game with a single run in the top of the first, but the rest of the night belonged to the Chargers team that answered with 2 runs in the bottom of the frame, 2 more in the second thanks to an Andrew Frei home run and then the Chargers blew it open with 5 runs in the third for the 9-1 lead.
The Patriots scratched for a run in the fourth and that’s where it stayed as neither team scored after the fourth frame.
Frei hit his 2-run homer in the second and he also scored twice in the game, while Jordan Ballin hit an RBI double and scored once and Josh Bowman doubled and picked up 2 RBI.
Aidan Pickett walked twice, scored 2 runs and also drove in a run, while Ryan Brandon, Evan Kuhl, Cooper Marshall and Jacob Gresham all scored once and Cam Logan singled.
Karson Kaiser went 5 innings on the hill and picked up the win. Kaiser gave up 4 hits, 1 earned run, walked 2 and fanned 4.
Rowdy Miller and Sam Miller tossed an inning each. Rowdy struck out 3 batters and Sam sat down 2 and neither gave up a hit or a walk.
