What started as a blowout in the first half turned into a competitive game Tuesday when the Geneva School of Boerne boys basketball team hosted Westbury Christian School.

The Eagles had doubled up the Wildcats by halftime, 28-14, after holding the Houston school to five second-quarter points, but Westbury made a game of it in the second half.

The Wildcats outscored the Eagles over the final two stanzas, 32-24, and had the lead down to four points in the fourth quarter, but Geneva’s 14-point halftime cushion was enough to carry them to a 52-46 victory.

Up next, Geneva (305) faces Hill Country Christian (26-3) in the 4A regional finals with a berth to the TAPPS state tournament on the line. They play Saturday at San Marcos Christian Academy, 4 p.m.

The Eagles really won last Tuesday’s game in the second period when they tallied 20 and held the Wildcats to just 5 points.

Westbury went the first 4:30 of the quarter before they scored a point. They added another bucket later for their only points of the period.

However, the Wildcats came out once the second half started and outscored the Eagles in the third, 18-10, and Geneva’s advantage was 38-32 headed to the final stanza.

Westbury whittled the lead down even more, to four points, but that’s as close as they came to catching Geneva, which never let go of the lead down the stretch.

Jake Roberson scored in every quarter and finished with 19 points, Wyatt Bruss added 16 points and hit four 3s in the game, while Colton Lutz netted 13 as the three combined for 48 of their 52 points.

Jack Walker Harden and Harlan Mangum both chipped in with 2 points apiece.

Maddox Davis led Westbury with 14 points, with all 14 coming in the second half.
