BHS softball comeback comes up short vs. Kerrville

The Boerne High softball team’s rally Tuesday in Kerrville came up just short after they were topped by the Tivy Antlers, 15-13.

Boerne was trailing 12-3 and on the verse of getting run ruled by the Lady Antlers, but the Lady Greyhounds fought back with 5 runs in the sixth and seventh frames to make a game of it.

Boerne scored its 5 runs in the top of the sixth with two home runs. Ava Renteria pushed in 3 of those runs with a 3-run shot to center and Breanna Krause belted a 2-run homer to account for their 5 runs and make it 12-8.

Tivy answered with 3 runs in the bottom of the sixth to bump its lead to 15-8 thanks to a 3-run homer of their own by Kyra Wheatfall.

That 3-run dinger by Wheatfall really helped the Lady Antlers because BHS plated 5 more runs in the top of the seventh.

In the top of the seventh, Boerne slapped out four doubles, had a hit batter and used an intentional walk to score 5 runs and whittle the lead to 15-13.

The Lady Hounds had some chances and had a runner at third with one out. They brought the tying run to the plate twice, but those two batters were retired to end the threat.

It’s Boerne’s first loss of the season and leaves them at 5-1 overall and 1-1 in district. The Lady Greyhounds were scheduled to play in the Edgewood tourney this weekend but it was called due to the weather.

BHS resumes district play Tuesday at home against Veterans Memorial and then visits Smithson Valley Friday.

Renteria finished with 2 home runs and also had a solo shot in the third to go with her dinger in the sixth and finished with 4 RBI, while Krause hit a homer, doubled and singled for 3 hits and she picked up 3 RBI and scored 3 runs.

Riley Partin belted 2 doubles and scored twice, Brooklynn Thomason doubled and singled and collected 2 RBI, while Tessa Murphy doubled and scored a run.

Jesseanna Aguirre went 6 innings in the circle and gave up 11 hits, walked 8 and struck out 2.
