Chargers, Greyhounds at district swim/dive meet as they prep for this weekend’s regional competition

SAN ANTONIO – Swimmers and divers from Boerne ISD competed at the recent District 28-5A meet at the Southwest ISD Aquatics Center.

The top six finishers in each event advanced to this weekend’s regional meet, also at SWISD, while the top eight swimmers scored points.

Champion made it a clean sweep after the girls tallied 212 points and the boys rolled to 192 points to both take first.

BHS came in second in the girls standings (110) and the Boerne boys were third (73) behind New Braunfels (89). Southwest, Southwest Legacy and John Jay are also in the district.

Champion’s Bexon Harrison and Kate Canales were named the male and female Athletes of the Meet. Harrison set two pool records at the meet.

RESULTS

In the 200-medley relay, Chargers Karly Whitehead, Kate Canales, Cameron Kellogg and Cora Skoog teamed up for 1st with a 1:49 and the BHS girls team of Brinley Robinson, Lauren Summers, Sarah Heilesen and Michelle Mendoza was 2nd at 1:57.

In the boys 200-medley relay, the Hound squad of Cole Grotjohn, Cooper Wagner, Cannon Kunz and Isaac Martin Johnson took 1st with a 1:47.

In the 200 free, Champion’s Karly Whitehead (1:57) won the race, while Madilynne Neuman (2:06), Addison Homann (2:09) and Breanna Hempton (2:13) went 3-4-6 and BHS’s Karen Gray (2:12) and Ashlyn Jendrusch (2:14) were 5 and 7.

Charger Bexon Harrison set a pool record in the boys 200 free after posting a 1:40.35, while teammates Carson Muenchow (1:52), Nash Belson (2:01) and Aaron Mendoza (2:02) were 2-5-7.

In the girls 200 IM, Champion’s Addison Graham (2:11) was 1st, while teammates Cameron Kellogg (2:14) and Ava Story (3:01) went 2 and 5.

In the boys 200 IM, Chargers Sarp Peterson (2:29.10), Cian Maloney (2:29.35), Grant Perkins (2:30) and Juan Nieto (2:37) were 3-4-5-7.

In the girls 50 free, CHS’s Cora Skoog (24.41) took 1st, while Meghan Jackson (26.29) and Cayden VanDyne (27.04) were 3-4. BHS’s Lauren Summers (26.08) was 2nd, Brinley Robinson (27.58) and Michelle Mendoza (27.88) were 5-6.

Hound Cooper Wagner (21.37) won the boys 50 free and Isaac Martin Johnson (25.61) was 8th, while Champion’s Will Harrison (21.48), Will Tolar (21.85), Ethan Altermatt (23.21) and Julius Hoxhaj (23.49) finished 2-3-5-6.

In 1-meter diving, Charger Jada Green won the event with 408.35 points and Gavin Richmond came in 2nd with 275.10 points.

In the 100 butterfly, Kate Canales (57.08) of CHS won the event and Cameron Kellogg (1:02) placed 3rd, while BHS’s Sarah Heilesen (1:07) was 4th.

In the boys 100 fly, Will Harrison (53.98) of Champion took 1st, while teammates Ethan Altermatt (59.34), Nash Belson (1:00) and Aaron Mendoza were 5-6-8. BHS’s Cannon Kunz (1:04) placed 7th.

Charger Cora Skoog (52.79) won the 100 free, while teammates Meghan Jackson (58.40), Cayden VanDyne (1:01) and Elena Duran (1:05) went 3-4-7 and BHS’s Abigail Jendrusch (1:04) was 6th.

Bexon Harrison also set a new pool record in the boys 100 free with a 45.73, while Charger teammates Will Tolar (50.37), Luke Bove (52.16) and Julius Hoxhaj (52.84) finished 3-7-8 and BHS’s Cooper Wagner (47.53) and Cole Grotjohn (51.48) placed 2-5.

In the 500 free, CHS’s Addison Graham (5:16) won the event, while teammates Breanna Hempton (6:09), Ava Story (7:02) and Ava Mueller (7:15) were 3-7-8.

Boerne’s Karen Gray (5:57), Sadie Smurr (6:27) and Carly Robertson (6:39) went 2-5-6.

In the boys 500 free, Charger Carson Muenchow (4:59) won the race, while teammates Owen Altermatt (5:08), Aiden Carney (5:39.82) and Baylor Slay (5:39.83) were 3-4-5. In the 200-freestyle relay, CHS’s Meghan Jackson, Madilynne Neuman, Addison Graham and Cayden VanDyne teamed up for 1st with a 1:45 and the BHS squad of Brinley Robinson, Michelle Mendoza, Sarah Heilesen and Lauren Summers was 2nd in 1:47. The Charger team of Bexon Harrison, Will Harrison, Ethan Altermatt and Will Tolar finished 1st in 1:27 and the BHS squad of Isaac Martin Johnson, Cannon Kunz, Cole Grotjohn and Cooper Wagner was 2nd in 1:36. In the 100 backstroke, Charger Karly Whitehead (59.37) placed 1st and her teammate Addison Homann (1:07) was 2nd, while BHS’s Brinley Robinson (1:09), Catherine Bailey (1:17) and Abigail Jendrusch (1:19) went 4-6-8.

In the boys 100 back, Luke Bove (1:00) of CHS won the race, while teammates Sarp Peterson (1:04), Grant Perkins (1:09) and Vance Lander (1:10) were 5-6-7.

Charger Kate Canales (1:04) won the 100-yard breaststroke and Madilynne Neuman (1:10) placed 4th, while BHS’s Lauren Summer (1:07), Ashlyn Jendrusch (1:19), Violet Gothard (1:26) and Carly Robertson (1:30) were 2-5-6-7.

Cole Grotjohn (1:03) of BHS was 1st in the 100-yard breaststroke and Cannon Kunz (1:13) was 8th, while Chargers Owen Altermatt (1:06), Jackson Hankins (1:10.27) and Lucas Romero (1:10.45) finished 3-6-7.

In the girls 400-free relay, the Charger team of Cora Skoog, Karly Whitehead, Cameron Kellogg and Kate Canales took 1st in 3:46 and the BHS squad of Karen Gray, Michelle Mendoza, Ashlyn Jendrusch and Sarah Heilesen finished 2nd with a 4:08.

In the boys 400-free relay, Champion’s Will Harrison, Will Tolar, Carson Muenchow and Bexon Harrison teamed up for 1st with a 3:15, while the Greyhound team of Isaac Solis, Elliott Rye, Zayden Arnold and Zach Pyle placed 6th in 4:20.
