COMFORT – The Comfort Bobcat and Deer basketball teams welcomed archrival Blanco last Friday for doubleheader district games and had mixed results after the Deer were defeated and the Bobcats won.
Both Comfort teams visited Ingram Tuesday and host Llano Friday as they continue league play.
Varsity Boys
Blanco had a fast start in the boys game and was up 16-7 after one but the Bobcats turned the game in their favor in the second with a strong quarter after they dropped in 26 points and held the Panthers to 15.
Comfort pulled ahead, 31-29, but Blanco tied it before the Bobcats closed out the half with two more points for the 33-31 halftime advantage.
After that, Comfort kept building its lead and was up by 10 points by the end of the third at 47-37.
The Cats went up by as many as 15 in the fourth quarter at 52-37. Blanco cut it to 10 at one point with a layup off a steal to make it 56-46, but there was only two minutes left at that point.
Comfort scored the final three points of the game to get it back to double digits and record the 59-46 win.
Varsity Girls
Comfort High had a hard time getting its offense going against its archrival Blanco.
The Deer were held in single digits in all four quarters and were defeated by the Lady Panthers, 57-20.
With the loss, the Deer fall to 8-18 overall and 1-6 in district play. They traveled to Ingram on Tuesday and host Llano Friday before closing out the regular season Feb. 4 at Brady.
Blanco was up by double digits when the first quarter ended at 17-7 and then held Comfort to 2 points in the second, while they scored 11 for the 28-9 halftime lead.
The Deer netted 7 points again in the third and finished with 4 in the final stanza, while the Panthers hit for 10 and 19 to finish in double digits all four quarters.
Anahi Martinez led the girls team with 7 points, Jael Hernandez, Alexa Lozano and Savannah Pizana all netted 3 points and Molly Gowan and Tindall Ahrens hit for 2 apiece.
Hernandez grabbed 8 rebounds, Ahrens snagged 6 boards and Martinez scooped up 6 rebounds. Hernandez dished out 2 assists, while Gowan and Martinez both came up with 2 steals.
