July 7, 1934 – Feb. 24, 2024

Joyce Mansfield, 89, of Orange County, California, passed away on Feb. 24, 2024.

Joyce was born to Melvin and Marie Teachout on July 7, 1934, in Tarrytown, New York. She studied history and psychology at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine.

Joyce married Edward S. in 1957. After Edward served in the United States Air Force in Louisiana, they landed in Orange County, California, where they lived for 60 years.

They spent their final years together in Boerne, Texas. Edward passed away on Oct. 8, 2020. They had three children together.

Joyce is survived by her children, Edward Scott (Natalie), Gary Daniel (Amy), and Tracey Coy (Robert); and her grandchildren, Daniel, Oksana, Kade, Karly, Joshua Coy, Mallori Scott (Nick), Jessica Nickerson, Collin Coale (Sydney), Callie Coale Foster (John), Claire Kaspar (D.C.), Cami Holden (Stephen), Caroline Travis (Connor), and Corinne Coale.

Joyce dedicated much of her life to helping those in need. She was a member of the Orange County Assistance League, where she helped start several community outreach programs. Her passion for helping those in need led her to the National Assistance League where she held many positions including chairman of bylaws, membership director and vice president administration.

In 2016, Joyce was awarded the National Ada Edward Laughlin Award for her development of the Circle Fund, a way to raise money. This was only the second time in national history that this award had been presented.

Joyce spent her free time playing bridge in many clubs in and around Orange County. She loved being with her friends and grandchildren and spent as much time with them as she could.

Her wonderful sense of humor and insights on life were valued by everyone she knew. She also loved to read, be outside in the wonderful California weather and was often found sprucing up the gardens around the house.

The family would like to express deep and sincere appreciation to the staff at Heritage Place of Boerne and Alamo Hospice, who were very comforting to her and her family.
