Kjell Leif Oliversen, age 87, of San Antonio, passed away peacefully after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease Thursday, Feb. 1 at an area care facility.

He was born Oct. 6, 1936. to Trygve and Walborg Oliversen (Carlson) in Madison, Wisconsin.

Kjell proudly served in the U.S. Navy upon graduation from high school. He received an honorable discharge after two years of service with the rank of petty officer first class in August 1956. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and received his degree in mining engineering in 1961.

He was united in marriage to Arliss Leone Pierce on Aug. 13, 1960, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Tomah, Wisconsin. Kjell began his career at Vulcan Materials Company in Racine, Wisconsin, where they began their family. He was active in the church choir and enjoyed golfing.

As he grew older, his job responsibilities changed. He eventually retired as a regional vice president in 1998. In their retirement, Kjell and Arliss moved to San Antonio, where they continued pursuing their enjoyment in golf and church.

He is survived by his children, Shelly Oliversen of San Antonio, Sheryl (Richard) Clark of San Antonio, Scott (Pam) Oliversen of Andover, Minnesota, and Kris Oliversen of Puyallup, Washington; his grandchildren, Jacob (Victoria) Oliversen of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, Jonathan (Alyssa) Oliversen of St. Paul, Minnesota, Emily Oliversen of San Antonio, Benjamin Clark of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Samantha Clark of Herndon, Virginia; a great-grandson, Otto James Oliversen; his sister, Elsa (Lyle) Borcharding; and numerous other nieces, nephews, other friends and relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and stepmother (Marguerite), brother, Trygve Oliversen; sister, Lillian Strong; brothers-in-law Loren Jr. Pierce, Duaine “Black” Pierce, Ronald “White” Pierce, Charles “Jesse” Pierce and Norman “Woody” Pierce; nephews Joey Pierce and Dennis Pierce; and great-nephews Jordan Oliversen, Brent Oliversen, Tyler Pierce and Eric Tollefson.

Memorial service will be held April 6 at 11 a.m. at St John Lutheran Church, 315 Rosewood Ave. in Boerne. Lunch will be served in the Family Life Center at the church immediately following.

The service will be streamed on the St John Lutheran Church channel on Youtube.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to the church would be welcome.
