Sarah “Sally” Barkley
Sarah “Sally” Barkley
1945 – 2024
Sarah “Sally” Ann , a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on Feb. 2, 2024, at the age of 78. Her warm smile, kind heart, and unwavering love touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Born in Forrest City, Arkansas, in 1945, Sally was the daughter of Mary Lee and Brooks Bordon. She grew up alongside her siblings, Beth and Lee, cultivating a bond that would endure a lifetime. Sarah’s family was her rock, and she cherished the memories created during their childhood adventures. As Sally entered the wonderful journey of motherhood, she was blessed with two loving sons, Rich and Brooks. She poured her heart and soul into raising them, instilling in them the values of compassion, integrity, and unconditional love.
Sally’s unwavering support and guidance shaped Rich and Brooks into the remarkable men they are today. In later years, Sally embraced the role of mother-in-law to Jauhnea and Courtney, welcoming them with open arms into her loving family.
She cherished the bonds formed with her daughters-inlaw and found joy in the love they brought to her sons’ lives.
Sally’s greatest joy came from being a grandmother to her four beautiful granddaughters when she took on the name of Mamee to Kaley, Kamryn, Braxten, and Bryleigh. She doted on them endlessly, showering them with love, affection, and wisdom.
The girls, along with many others, have years’ worth of “Happy Birthday” phone calls ingrained in their memories thanks to Mamee’s beautiful singing voice (cough cough). Mamee’s presence in their lives illuminated their paths, and her legacy will forever live within their hearts.
Beyond her roles as a mother, sister, and grandmother, Sally was a pillar of kindness and care. Her compassion extended to all those around her, including the many animals she took in as her own over the years. From the many dogs and wild kitties to the deer grazing in her lawn and hummingbirds in the feeders, Mamee was always feeding and caring for the animals around her.
She possessed a gentle spirit and an affectionate heart, always ready to offer comfort and care.
Sarah Ann leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and selflessness. She will be dearly missed by her sons, Rich and Brooks; her daughters-in-law, Jauhnea and Courtney; her granddaughters, Kaley, Kamryn, Braxten, and Bryleigh; her sisters, Beth and Lee; and all those who had the honor of knowing her.
While we mourn the loss of Sally, let us also raise a glass of chardonnay to celebrate the vibrant life she lived and the invaluable impact she made on our hearts. May her spirit continue to guide us, reminding us to cherish our loved ones and embrace each day with love and gratitude.
A celebration of life will be held to honor Sally’s life at 1 p.m. on Feb. 9, 2024, at Ebensberger Fisher Funeral Home with a reception to follow at St. Mark’s Presbyterian Church Family Life Center, where family and close friends will gather to share memories and find solace in each other’s company.
