Alewine

James “Bud” Boyce Alewine passed away in Boerne, Texas, on Jan. 26, 2024 at the age of 90. He was born on Jan. 4,1934 in Anderson, South Carolina.

Bud worked for 38 years for Owens Corning Fiberglas in Anderson, South Carolina, and then Amarillo, Texas.

Bud, as his nickname indicates, was a simple man and enjoyed the simple things in life. Some of Bud’s favorites were sitting on the front porch rocking, driving fast or racing Jean home from church, fresh cut grass, boating and waterskiing, vine ripe tomatoes from his garden, old “poppin Johnny” tractors, Vidalia onions, a good football game or car race, a clean white pickup truck, talking “Flat rock” English, Clorox, and most of all — a home cooked “Bud” meal surrounded by family.

He often reminisced about his dirt track race days and the camaraderie shared with his friends/race crew, and was an avid Clemson fan as well as an adopted University of Texas fan.

Bud was a beloved son, husband, brother, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and is preceded in death by his parents, John Monroe and Nettie Alewine of Starr, South Carolina; his sister and brother-in-law Alice and Jacky Bradberry of Anderson, South Carolina; a brother-in-law, James Aubrey Murphy of Starr, South Carolina, and his beloved childhood sweetheart and wife of 65 years Martha Jean Nichols Alewine of Boerne, Texas.

He is survived by his sister, Bettie Sue Murphy of Piedmont, South Carolina; two daughters and their husbands, Barbara and Glenn Bechthold of Huntington Beach, California, and Lee and Libby Hanse of Boerne; five grandchildren, Keegan (Sara) Higgins of Cornelius, North Carolina, Leigh (Ingo) William of Timmendorfer Strand, Germany, Luke (Aubrey) Hanse of San Antonio, Texas, Lance (Audrey) Hanse of Dallas, and Logan Hanse of Boerne.

He is also survived by six great-grandchildren; Noah, Zoe, Cauis and Jonas William, Elijah and Jonah Higgins.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in South Carolina. Condolences can be sent to [email protected] or Libby Hanse, 211 Santa Fe Trail, Boerne, Texas 78006.
