Cathie Carpenter Meadows, born Jan. 5, 1949, died on March 29, 2025, after a lifetime of bringing glory to Christ Jesus in everything she did.

The Lord granted her remarkable opportunities to impact lives in her family, classroom, church, community and around the world.

Cathie grew up a farm girl in Allen, Texas, the fifth child of J.W. and Loretta Carpenter, and graduated from Texas Women’s University with bachelor’s and master’s of arts degrees.

She married her husband, Mike Meadows, in May 1971 and they served as missionaries to Japan for five years. Upon their return to the United States, Cathie served as a music educator in public schools, first in Clovis, New Mexico, for 10 years and then in Boerne, Texas, for 17 years.

She also served as the fine arts lead teacher for the Boerne Independent School District for 10 years. She expanded music education for her students and founded both the secondary choral program and the orchestra program and created a China Exchange program.

Many were blessed by Cathie’s roles as worship pastor and choir director over 11 years at First Baptist Church in Boerne, where her husband served as a member of the pastoral staff. She established the Women of Worship choir and prison ministry inside Texas prisons to share with incarcerated women the joy of Jesus’ redeeming love.

Cathie used her Godgiven gifts of faith, leadership and music in service to worship leaders and spiritual brothers and sisters on mission trips to China, Indonesia and Uganda. In all of these endeavors, her faithfulness to prayer, to seeking God’s will and to empowering others to bring glory to God through worship and service were an example to all.

Her genuine love for the Lord inspired in her a generous love for the family of God found in the local and global church and a sincere desire for others to know the love, forgiveness and grace of her Savior.

Cathie was also one of the founders of the nonprofit organization Boerne Performing Arts, where she provided leadership as artistic director to bring fine arts experiences to the students of Boerne ISD through student concerts and performances for Boerne and surrounding communities.

The family would like to give special thanks to Alamo Hospice nurses Jackie and Tina, Carol from Visiting Angels, and Dr. Ben Stahl. The Meadows are grateful for the wonderful support of the ALS Association.

Cathie is preceded in death by her parents J.W. and Loretta Carpenter, one sister, Francis Boyd, and one brother, Jerry Carpenter.

Cathie is survived by her husband of 53 years, Mike Meadows; one daughter, Laura Meadows; one son, Chris (Chrissy) Meadows; three grandchildren Jacob, Mallory and Charlotte Meadows; one brother, J.W. Carpenter Jr.; one sister, Jean Alexander; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. April 6, 2025, at First Baptist Church, Boerne. Her ashes will be interred in Allen, Texas, at a future date.
