Ernest “Ernie” T. Eastwood Jr., 82, of Ridgeland, Mississippi, died at his home Feb. 26, 2025. Born Oct. 10, 1942, in San Antonio, Texas, he was the son of Maxine (Cole) Frances Eastwood and Ernest Truett Eastwood Sr.
Ernie’s educational journey began at Burbank Junior and High School and continued at Northside High School, now known as John Marshall High School. He furthered his studies at San Antonio College before earning a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from St. Mary’s University in 1964.
Demonstrating a commitment to lifelong learning, Ernie pursued additional studies at the University of Texas at Austin and Our Lady of the Lake University, culminating in a master’s degree in special education from the University of Texas at San Antonio.
Embarking on a dedicated teaching career, Ernie made significant contributions to the San Antonio Independent School District. He taught special needs students at Eloise Japhet Elementary School, where he also championed the chess club, fostering critical thinking and camaraderie among his students.
Later, he continued his educational impact at John Greenleaf Whittier Middle School, inspiring young minds with his passion for learning.
From an early age, Ernie had a passion for aviation, particularly in flying and sharing the joy of radio-controlled airplanes. His enthusiasm led him to become an active member of the Boerne Area Model Society (BAMS), an RC model airplane flying club located in Boerne, Texas.
He served as BAMS president from 2009 to 2010, promoting the hobby and mentoring fellow enthusiasts. Ernie was also deeply involved in his community; his commitment to service began with the Boy Scouts and extended into his adult life.
He was an active member of the Rotary Club of Boerne, serving as president for one year. Additionally, he was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Boerne, where he found spiritual fulfillment and fellowship.
Ernie was preceded in death by his parents, Maxine and Ernest Eastwood Sr. He is survived by one daughter, Robin Eastwood (Brad) Wheeler; one son, Tom Eastwood; one granddaughter, Zoë Wheeler; one sister, Vicki (Lloyd E.) Deuel; one brother, Terry (Cheryl) Eastwood; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. March 10, 2025, at Mission Park North Cemetery, 20900 Interstate 10, in San Antonio.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Boerne Area Model Society (website is: boernerc.org; email is [email protected]) in Ernie’s memory.
Ernie will be remembered as a beloved family and community member. His legacy will continue to inspire all who knew him.
