Betty Sundin
Betty S. Sundin, 92, of Boerne, Texas, passed away peacefully during the early morning of Jan. 6, 2025, in the care of the Franklin Park Assisted Living and Memory Care of Boerne.
She had recently celebrated her birthday on Dec. 24, surrounded by her four children and spouses, and her five grandchildren.
Betty was born in Wrightsboro, Texas, to the late Edward R. Cliffe and Cleo B. Cliffe on Dec. 24, 1932. Betty graduated from Gonzales High School and attended one year of college in Corpus Christi, Texas.
In the Summer of 1953 Betty met Dennis Sundin at the Hot Wells Baptist Church in San Antonio, Texas, and on March 31, 1956, they were married at the same church.
Betty and Dennis had four children and, in the fall of 1967, moved from San Antonio to the Texas Hill Country near Boerne and Comfort, Texas.
Their four children attended Comfort schools and Betty and Dennis could often be seen in the community at school events supporting their children.
Betty worked at Camp Stanley Army Depot in Leon Springs, Texas, for more than 30 years, where she received numerous awards as a purchasing agent before retiring in 1996. After retirement, Betty and Dennis enjoyed spending time on the farm together, attending church activities and programs at First Baptist Church of Boerne, attending weekly lunches at The Rainbow Senior Center in Boerne, and Betty especially enjoyed the years of attending water aerobics at the Benedictine Center in Boerne.
Most importantly, Betty enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren and hosting family and friends who would come to visit the farm and stay in their cottage. Betty loved baking and was known for her famous chocolate chip oatmeal cookies and her chocolate cake.
If you knew Betty, you knew of her strong faith in Jesus Christ. She loved Jesus dearly and desired everyone she knew to also come to have a relationship with Him.
She was a mighty prayer warrior. Prayer notes and journals have recently been found among her reading materials by her children. If she knew you in any capacity, chances are you would be able to find your name on one of her sweet prayer lists.
Betty is survived by her two sons, Randy Sundin of Boerne, and Brad (Joanne) Sundin of San Antonio; two daughters, Susan Sundin of Boerne, and Sharon (Bill) McKool of Aiken, South Carolina; and five grandchildren, Eric Sundin, Laura Sundin, Alex Sundin, Brandon McKool and Kristen McKool.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Sundin; parents Edward R. Cliffe and Cleo Belle Cliffe; brother Eddie Cliffe; and niece Julie Cliffe Brangan.
The celebration of life service will take place at 2 p.m. Feb. 8, 2025, at the Ebensberger-Fisher Funeral Home in Boerne.
There will be a private gathering following to spread the ashes.
Betty made it very clear to her family that she did not want any to be sad for her passing but instead to celebrate her life and the life we all can have in Christ. So, to honor her request, and in that spirit, please feel free to come dressed casually and colorfully as this is what she wanted.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to one of Betty’s favorite ministries, Grace House Inc., P.O. Box 781283, San Antonio, Texas 78278.
In closing the family would like to thank Diane and Nancy of the Boerne Visiting Angels, Freedom Hospice of San Antonio, and The Franklin Park Assisted Living and Memory Care of Boerne staff member Hannah for their loving and respectful care during Betty’s prolonged illness.
