Rose R. Elizondo
Rose R. Elizondo
With the deepest regret we announce the unexpected passing of Rose Ramirez Elizondo, a fiercely devoted mother and matriarch, loyal wife and beloved friend who departed this life on Jan. 15, 2025, at the age of 74 in her home in Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas.
Rose was born near Roma, Texas, the youngest of four siblings, graduated from St. Pius X High School, and put herself through college at the University of Houston where she graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and was a member of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.
She met the love of her life, Dr. Roy Jesse Elizondo Jr., during final exams her senior year and, after a whirlwind courtship, they were wed in 1973 and recently celebrated 51 years of marriage.
Rose accepted a position with Exxon in Houston, Texas, immediately out of college where she helped develop a computer program used in subsurface oil and gas operations and traveled the world teaching others to use it.
She flourished in her early career and helped put her husband through medical school, but ultimately decided she wanted to live near her mother, father and only sister, so they decided to move and build their dream home with the help of her brothers in Fair Oaks Ranch.
There, Rose and Roy raised their three children, her pride and joy, who went on to graduate from Yale, Rice and Texas A&M before becoming professionals with post-graduate degrees, and whose achievements are directly attributable to their mother’s resolute encouragement and support.
Rose loved spending time with her family and friends and her authenticity made a lasting impression on everyone she encountered. Throughout her life, she exemplified the spirit of resilience, love, and dedication.
She worked as a real estate agent helping countless family members and friends find homes while championing the arts and sciences and also served as a past president of the Bexar County Medical Society Alliance.
As a proud Hispanic woman and devout Catholic, Rose embraced her heritage and instilled the values of her culture and faith in her son, Roy Jesse (Chantel) Elizondo III; two daughters, Kristen Elizondo (John Michael) Alaniz and Ashley Elizondo (Daniel) Brooks; and cherished grandchildren, Gavin Elizondo, Sloane (Chantel) Smallbone, Everette Brooks, Hugo Alaniz, Dean Brooks and Rhodes Elizondo.
She also is survived by her loving husband Roy; sister Norma Ornelas; and brother Raul Ramirez Jr.
She is predeceased by her father (Raul Sr.), mother (Hermila) and brother (“Joe”).
Rose Ramirez Elizondo will be deeply missed, yet her light and love will remain a guiding force and continue to resonate in the lives of her family and all those fortunate enough to have known her.
The family invites everyone to join in these ceremonies to celebrate her life and legacy.
Services were held Saturday Jan. 25.
