Sept. 27, 1940 -- Oct. 15, 2024

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Barbara Ann Scrimpsher, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, who peacefully left us on Oct. 15, 2024, at the age of 84, with family by her side after a courageous journey with dementia.

Barbara moved from her home in the summer of 2023 and resided in assisted living before moving to a memory care facility, where she received compassionate care during her final days.

Born on Sept. 27, 1940, in Kenedy, Texas, to Glenn and Marie Newell, Barbara’s life was filled with kindness, resilience and love. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George A. Scrimpsher Jr.; her brother, David Newell; and her stepson, Gary Scrimpsher.

Barbara leaves behind a legacy of love through her children: Glenn Springer and his wife, Janette; Wayne Springer and his wife, Vicki; and Darla Giacobbe and her husband, Allen, as well as her stepson, Todd Scrimpsher, and his wife, Caryl.

She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren: Zachariah Springer and Matthew Springer, children of Glenn and Janette; Tara McKinney, Clinton Springer, Cody Springer, and Cole Springer, children of Wayne and Vicki; and Russell Cavin and Darby Perez, as well as step-grandchildren Shawn Giacobbe and Megan Williams, children of Darla and Allen, and Jason Scrimpsher, child of Todd and Caryl.

She is also survived by her siblings, Robert Newell and his wife, Candy, and Diana Moczygemba, along with numerous beloved great-grandchildren.

Barbara had a deep love for all animals. Friends would often joke that she loved her animals even more than her people. Her gentle spirit and devotion to all creatures great and small were hallmarks of her character.

Her family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate caregivers at Hope Hospice, Heritage Place Assisted Living, and Morningside at Menger Springs-Cibolo House Memory Care, who provided loving support and care throughout her journey.

A celebration of Barbara’s remarkable life was slated for Nov. 9 in Boerne. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to any charity dedicated to animal welfare, rescue or the care of animals.

Barbara’s love and light will remain with us always and her memory will be cherished in our hearts forever.
