William Francis 'Bill' Scheidt

William “Bill” Francis Scheidt, known to many as a devoted father, skilled farrier, talented artist and an individual who loved to tell stories, passed away Nov. 6, 2024, at the age of 87.

Bill was born May 30, 1937, in San Antonio, Texas, to William and Annie Scheidt. Bill served almost three years in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Holder. Bill worked at EG&G in the automotive testing industry until he retired. In addition, he also worked as a farrier shoeing horses throughout Boerne and the surrounding Hill Country.

After retirement, he focused on painting and became an active member of the Boerne art community. He was an oil painter and participated in numerous shows and galleries throughout Texas and the southwest United States. His subject matter included cowboys, Native Americans, nature, and wildlife. He taught painting lessons from his Boerne studio for many years. Bill was also an active member of the community at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, including the Men’s Club, and enjoyed cooking brisket for annual church festivals. His legacy will live on not only in his family, but also in the hearts of individuals throughout the community.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, William and Annie Scheidt; his siblings, Dennis Scheidt and Judy Scheidt Paige; and his lovely wife Dorothy Marie Boyle Scheidt. Bill and Dorothy were married Nov. 25, 1961, at St. Mary Magdalen’s Church in San Antonio. He is survived by three sons, ret. Army Lt. Col. Kenneth “Rusty” Scheidt of St. Petersburg, Florida, and his wife, Phyllis; Darrell Scheidt of Johnson City, and his wife, Vicki; Stephen “Andy” Scheidt of San Antonio, and his wife, Jenny; and Regina “Gina” Schoelles of Woerrstadt, Germany, and her husband Volker; seven grandchildren, Carolyn Scheidt, Nataly (Alex) Anderson, Byrun (Carrie) Mabry, Kayla Scheidt, Ryan “Philip” Scheidt, Sara Scheidt, and Peter William Schoelles; five great-grandchildren: Sophia Ivy Owens, Eli and Cora Mabry, and Carson and Erin Immel; and one brother, Herman (Gladys) Scheidt.

Visitation will be held at St. Peter’s The Apostle Catholic Church in Boerne, Texas, at 10 a.m. Nov. 21, 2024, followed by the funeral mass at 11 a.m. Graveside service will take place at 2:30 p.m. at the San Fernando Cemetery No. 2.
