Allen Campbell

Aug. 21, 1939 -- Oct. 24, 2024

Allen Campbell passed away on Oct. 24, 2024, at the age of 85 in Boerne, Texas. Allen was born Aug. 21, 1939, in Oswego, Kansas, to Beecher and Bertha Campbell. He was the oldest of six children.

Allen enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1957 at the age of 17 and served until August 1960. In February of 1961, he joined the U.S. Air Force. Also, in the same year and month he married the love of his life, Karen Karns. They were married on February 18, 1961, at the Presbyterian Church in Oswego, Kansas.

Allen retired from the military after a combined distinguished career of 24 years, retiring as a senior master sergeant (E-8). While in the military he was stationed in Colorado, California, Nevada, Washington D.C., Maryland, Okinawa, Korea and Turkey. He was on temporary duty assignments in Alaska, Germany and England.

In 1983, he began working for the U.S. Air Force as a civil service employee at Brooks Air Force Base in San Antonio, retiring from civil service in 2001 at the Defense Language Institute of Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.

Allen is survived by one daughter, Cindy; one son, Steve and his wife, Diana; two granddaughters, Stephanie, and her husband, Christopher, and Kayleigh; one great-granddaughter Cora; two sisters, Linda and husband, David, and Patty; two brothers, Michael and his wife, Peggy, and Kenny and his wife, Janice; and many nieces and nephews whom he loved very much.

He was preceded in death by his wife Karen, parents Beecher and Bertha, one brother, Dwight, one brotherin- law, Mark, and a nephew, Jeremy.

Although not a native Texan, Allen spent most of his adult life in the San Antonio and Boerne area. He and his family were fortunate to have traveled to many parts of the world.

He would tell you that being stationed at a small base in Turkey created some of his fondest memories, partly because that was the only overseas assignment where his family were authorized to accompany him. The people of Turkey are great and some of the best folks on earth. We were fortunate to have had that experience.

Allen and family did make it a point to visit family and friends in Kansas as much as possible, regardless of where they were living at the time. He also made it a point that his family was able to visit much of the United States and see all its beauty during their travels. Allen visited all 50 states with Karen seeing all the lower 48 with him.

Life has been good for the Campbell family. Friends are like family; always appreciated and forever loved.

No services are planned at this time. Inurnment of ashes is planned at Fort Logan National Cemetery Columbarium in Denver, Colorado.
