Claireann “Claire” Ruth Mishler Whiteley was born March 30, 1937, in Iowa City, Iowa, to Lois and Lynn Mishler and passed away Oct. 9, 2024, in Boerne, Texas.

She moved from Iowa to San Antonio, Texas with her family in the early ‘40s and was a resident there until 2002, when she moved to the Washington/Idaho area to be near two of her three sons.

Claire graduated from Brackenridge High School in San Antonio in 1955. She lived in Okinawa, Japan, as a military spouse for several years as well as several other military bases statewide. As a military spouse of 28 years, she also worked for the federal government.

She had five beautiful children. At the same time, she managed to complete several years of college and retired from the federal government in October 1998 with 37 years of service.

She was a member of St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church in San Antonio and volunteered at Northeast Baptist Hospital in San Antonio and for the American Red Cross in Fort Polk, Louisiana, and belonged to several dance groups.

Upon moving to Idaho, she joined the Crystal Chandelier’s Ballroom Dance Club, the Spokane Swing Dance Club, the Spokane Valley Order of Eagles, the Idaho American Legion and was an associate member of the Farragut Base Submarine Veterans.

Mom loved to dance and socialize, and she did that every opportunity she had.

At the age of 73, Claire had worked seven-plus years part-time for Downtown Toyota in Spokane, Washington, when she suffered a stroke in 2010, which required her to quit working.

Until death, she continued to silently suffer the sudden death of her third and youngest son, Mark Tracy, in San Antonio in 2007.

Now, Claire will again be with Mark and other loved ones who preceded her in death: Mark’s two children, Brandi and Jerry; both Claire’s parents; her stepfather, Al Slaughter; a sister, Jeannine Mishler; and her brothers, Robert and Merle Mishler.

She is survived by two daughters, Katherine Post of San Antonio and Cherie (Blake) Simpson of Mico, Texas; two sons, Mitchell (Peggy)Tracy of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and Michael Tracy of Spokane, Washington.

She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, a half-sister, Pamela Mishler of Waterloo, Iowa; two half-brothers, Roger Mishler of Waterloo and Timothy Mishler of Springfield, Missouri; and numerous cousins and nephews.
