Patrick A. Patterson
Patrick A. Patterson
Oct. 29, 1948 Aug. 16, 2024
Boerne resident passed away Aug. 16, 2024. He was born Oct. 29, 1948, in Houston and lived in Sugarland, Texas, until at the age of 8 when his family moved to Elmira, New York, home of his maternal grandparents.
He received bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Elmira College. After working as a hospital orderly and a Chemung County, New York, criminal investigator, he was elected county sheriff.
His law enforcement career progressed in 1983 when he began his 22-year service as an FBI special agent, assigned to complex criminal and national security investigations domestically and internationally.
When he retired in 2005, he was special agent in charge of the San Antonio Field Division. Post-retirement, he worked three years as the vice president of security for Harland Clarke in San Antonio.
Patrick and his wife Gail were married 36 years ago in Pittsburgh, where they met in 1984. At that time, both Patrick and Gail worked in the Federal Building in Pittsburgh.
After career assignments in Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, FBI headquarters, Detroit, Yemen, Quantico, Virginia, and Los Angeles, in 2003 Patrick was appointed the lead manager of the FBl’s San Antonio office.
With the exception of a four-year hiatus on the Outer Banks of North Carolina (2010-2014), Patrick and his wife have lived in Boerne since 2003.
In addition to his wife, Patrick is survived by two sons, Eric of Rochester, New York, and Patrick (Laura) M. Patterson, of Clover, South Carolina; one daughter, Michelle of Topeka, Kansas; and two sisters, Betty (Eugene) Protas of League City, Texas, and Mary Hable of Edgewood, Maryland.
He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Mike Hable, and his mother, Jean Kelly, who died in 2020.
Patrick pursued genealogy extensively and wrote two books, “Patterson Family History” and “History of (U.S. Army) Major Henry Fletcher Kendall,” published by the Kendall County Genealogical Society.
As an active member of the Boerne Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR), he shared with other members his briefings on U.S. military battles, regularly participated in local area parades and, as SAR registrar, assisted SAR applicants with documenting their own U.S. patriot backgrounds.
Since Patrick loved U.S. history, he and his wife purchased an RV and visited Civil War battlefields, U.S. national parks and numerous other historical sites throughout America, clocking in over 70,000 miles.
He was a man devoted to family, friends and public service. His diverse career gave him the opportunity to establish friendships with individuals nationwide. Many of those friends were kind enough to visit with, or telephone, him in Boerne during his multi-year struggle with liver cancer.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Aug. 28, 2024, at Ebensberger Fisher Funeral Home at 1265 N. Main St. in Boerne, followed by a luncheon at the Bevy Hotel. There will be a private inurnment at the Boerne City Cemetery columbarium.
