, 87, of Boerne, Texas, passed peacefully into rest with his Lord and savior Jesus Christ on July 17, 2024.

Rex was born May 28, 1937, in Enid, Oklahoma, to William and Emma Landis. He grew up in Lamont, Oklahoma, and received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business from Oklahoma State University.

Rex served in the U.S. Army Reserve while beginning his long career in oil and gas, first with Conoco and later with Valero.

He was married to the love of his life, Carolyn, for 65 years. Rex devoted his life to family and service and always had a smile for everyone.

A dedicated volunteer firefighter, he answered the call and jumped into action for both the Ponderosa Forest and Leon Springs volunteer fire departments for many years, rising to assistant chief of Leon Springs VFD.

Rex and Carolyn joined First United Methodist Church of Boerne in 1980, where he served faithfully for 44 years. He was also an active founding member of the Centurions of Kendall County.

Rex was preceded in death by his mother, Emma (Moody) Landis, and father, William Landis, as well as his siblings Leona, Elvin and Wilma.

He is survived by his wife Carolyn Reese Landis; three sons, Gregory (Amy) Landis; Christopher (Melissa) Landis and Jonathon (Karen) Landis; and seven grandchildren, Reese Landis, Hunter Landis, Wyatt Landis, Ashton Landis, Mackenzie Landis, Caleb Landis and Hayden Landis.

Services will be held THE BOERNE STAR

at First United Methodist Church of Boerne on Friday, Aug. 2, 2024, at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to First United Methodist Church of Boerne at 205 James St., Boerne, Texas 78006 or a charity of your choice.
