Roberta Brown, a lifelong Boerne resident, passed peacefully away on Friday, July 12, 2024.

Roberta was born March 26, 1941, at Tarry Bank, Bexar County, Texas. She was the second child and first daughter born to Russell and Dorothy Whiting.

Roberta lived at Terry Bank where her father worked as a ranch foreman for 35 years. The family lived in an apartment above a four-car garage, which consisted of 3 bedrooms, a single bath, living room and kitchen, with the apartment heated by a wood stove.

Growing up at Tarry Bank, Roberta swam in the Olympic- size pool and developed a lifelong love of all animals.

Roberta went to the Upper Balcones Schoolhouse for her first two years of school. Her mother then drove her and two other children to Boerne to attend public school, where Roberta graduated.

While at school, she was a member of the Future Homemakers of America (FHA) and Future Teachers of America (FTA) clubs. She played clarinet in the band and played school sports, including volleyball and basketball. She was a feature editor for the school newspaper, “The Bark.”

The Monday after graduation, Roberta began college at San Antonio Community College and attended one semester at Southwest Texas in 1959.

Roberta married Roy R. Brown Jr., in the Mesa, Arizona, temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, on Aug. 24, 1960. Roberta and Roy had four children, Wanda Elaine, Teresa Sue, Thomas Everett and Grace Denise. Roberta and Roy taught their children to be honest, dependable and always give their best, with God and family first.

She held a series of positions to include a doctor’s receptionist, J.C. Penney associate and a clerk at Allied Finance. At Hill Top and Town and Country Nursing Facilities, she was a medication aide and then became a home health care worker. She then worked for Hill Country Home Health Care, which serviced the greater Hill Country region.

Roberta was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The original Boerne branch began in the family’s home on Terry Bank in the 1950s. Roberta was the Sunday School secretary, taught primary, was a meeting house librarian and a counselor in the Relief Society.

Roberta is survived by three daughters, Wanda (Brad) Mullins, Teresa (John) Gaulrapp and Grace Brown; one son, Thomas (Denise) Brown; one brother, Gary (Treila) Whiting; one sister, Claire (Jerry) Harris; 12 grandchildren, Craig A. Mullins, Lance A. Mullins, Kevin A. Mullins, Candice Smith, Trevor Smith, Jonathan Smith, Kayla Brown Ames, Alicia Ferguson, Garrett Brown, Savanna Owen, Steven Owen and Kody Owen; and four great-grandchildren, Kanoa Murayama, Soren Ames, Kaya Maddox and Jada Maddox.

Roberta was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Dorothy Whiting, her husband, Roy R. Brown Jr., and her brother, Allen R. Whiting.

A Visitation was to be held July 19, 2024, at Ebensberger Fisher Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 20, 2024, at the funeral home, with interment following at the Boerne Cemetery.
