Robert Julius Gombert
Robert Julius Gombert
Robert Julius Gombert of Boerne, Texas, departed this life on April 15, 2024, after a battle with pulmonary fibrosis.
Known to friends as “Bob,” and to grandchildren as “Papa,” he loved his family, home and the Lord. Bob lived a life of gratitude and contentment, not striving for worldly success. His life was marked by simple faithfulness.
He lived on the same land his entire life, and only left Texas a few times. Bob’s loved ones will remember him for his commitment to his church, his family and to Boerne.
Born Jan. 13, 1940, to Julius and Selma Gombert in their home on Johns Road, Bob grew up doing the work he would continue his whole life. He raised livestock, hunted, trapped, grew crops and did his best to cut down cedar trees faster than they would grow.
He met Jeannie Asher of Leon Springs at a dance and fell in love. They married Nov. 4, 1960, the start of a loving life together for 63 years.
They built a house near his childhood home and made many happy memories living in the country raising their children. Bob and Jeannie did almost everything together, and their marriage was one of deep love, even to the end.
Along with farming, he had a 40-year career at Simon Corporation in New Braunfels.
Bob knew just about everyone in Boerne. He loved his grandchildren and never missed one of their games or events. He was often seen with tears in his eyes, proud of their accomplishments.
His home was warm and welcoming with a blazing fire in the winter, a healthy garden in the summer and meals around the dinner table with deer steak and home-grown vegetables.
He is survived by his wife, Audrey Jean (Jeannie); one sister, Alice (George) Plummer; one brother Gary (Candy) Gombert; two sons, Robert Gombert Jr., and Ronald (Jessica) Gombert; one daughter, Robin (Brock) Jennings; two grandsons, Grant and Luke Gombert; two granddaughters, Madison (Matthew) Meron and Shyla Jennings; and a large extended family.
