Dec. 29, 1943 April 28, 2024

Audrey Jean Gombert departed this life on April 28, 2024, in Boerne, Texas. She was known as “Jeannie” to her friends and “Mimi” to her grandchildren.

More than anything, Jeannie lived to be with people. Whether it was by hosting a Christmas gathering, making a batch of her famous pralines or playing make-believe with her grandchildren, she loved to find ways to make each person in the room smile.

Her presence and joy will be missed by her family and the church community to whom she dedicated her life.

She was born to Robert and Susie Asher in Leon Springs, Texas, Dec. 29, 1943, the youngest of 11 children. Growing up with little means, Jeanie learned how to make a little go a long way, yet she also acquired a great sense of humor and some adventurousness.

She played the clarinet in her high school band and even attempted to throw the shot put one season. At the age of 16, she met Bob Gombert, who would become her beloved husband, embarking on the adventure of her life. They were married Nov. 4, 1960, and had a 63-year marriage marked by deep love and commitment to their children and farm.

If you had the pleasure of visiting the Gombert home, you would surely remember Jeannie’s hospitality. She had a large collection of recipes and knew how to wield a frying pan.

Warmed by a roaring fire, she would make the most delicious meals — fried deer steak, rolls, home-grown tomatoes and many desserts.

She knew how to work with her hands and enjoyed gardening, sewing, crochet and shooting — the best shot in the family. She especially loved children and knew how to make them feel safe and loved.

Jeannie is preceded in death by her husband Robert “Bob” Gombert and all 10 of her siblings. She is survived by two sons, Robert Gombert Jr., and Ronald (Jessica) Gombert; one daughter, Robin (Brock) Jennings; four grandchildren, Madison (Matthew) Meron, Shyla Jennings, and Grant and Luke Gombert; and a large extended family.
