Doris Asher Blair

May 5, 1935 -- June 22, 2024

Doris Asher Blair, 89, of Boerne, Texas, made her ascent to heaven on Saturday, June 22, 2024. She was born on May 5, 1935, to Dallas (Bud) and Violet Asher and remained in this area her entire life, surrounded by family and friends.

Doris took great pleasure in the simple things in life: taking care of her family, especially her husband, J.D.; sewing, for which she had a real talent; baking delicious breads, cakes and cookies; sitting on the porch watching hummingbirds — she didn’t need anything fancy to make her heart sing.

She was immensely proud of her two grandsons and would brag about them to anyone within earshot. She played a big role in raising them since the boys lived on the same ranch as Doris and J.D.

Doris decided she wanted to enter the workforce after being a homemaker while her children were young. She went to night classes to secure her GED, not an easy task for someone who has been out of school for over 30 years, but she did it.

She then found a home with Boerne State Bank, where she worked for several years before it became Bank of America. She continued her career there, retiring after 20 years. She loved her customers and hearing all about their lives.

Doris found the love of her life in J.D., and they had an amazing marriage for 61 years before he passed away in 2023. They loved building a home over the years, renovating the original ranch house to make it more comfortable for the family.

Many a time one would see J.D. outside working and Doris running cold iced tea or water back and forth to him so she could keep an eye on him.

Doris is survived by her children, Keith Blair, of San Antonio, and Laura (husband Richard) Hansen, of Boerne; her two grandsons, Dylan and Conner Aldrete of Boerne; her great-granddaughter, Lianna Aldrete of San Antonio; and her brother Delmar Asher, who currently resides in Ghana, West Africa.

She also has many nieces, nephews and cousins to help carry on her legacy. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband J.D., her daughter-inlaw Susie Blair, and her sister Vernelle Minor.

There will be a graveside service at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 27, at Boerne Cemetery. For those who wish to donate in Doris’s name, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association to support efforts to fight this terrible disease.
