Ira Dave Smith was born on June 9, 1938, in New Kensington, Pennsylvania, to John Wilbur Smith and Bessie Margaret Rhine. Dave went to be with the Lord on May 24, 2024, at the age of 85.

Dave is survived by his daughter, Tammy Smith; his grandson, Stefan Ranney and his wife, Katie; and his great-grandchildren, Aiden and Hudson; his sister-in-law, Cindy Pfeiffer; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his six siblings, Bill, Jimmy, Ruth, John, Donnie and Nellie.

Dave spent most of his career as a mail carrier. Throughout the years, he created many great friendships with his customers. Later, when Joyce retired, she joined him in the car on the mail route.

Dave continued the mail route for a few years after Joyce passed, finally retiring with almost 30 years delivering mail.

After retirement, Dave made his way to every dominoes and canasta gathering within 50 miles. He would never turn down the opportunity to play with his family or friends, even trying to persuade his grandkids to learn to play.

Dave was such a kind person who loved his family unconditionally. He will be truly missed.

Visitation will be Tuesday, May 28, 2024, from 5-7 p.m. at Ebensberger Fisher Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at 10 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church with interment following the service at Boerne Cemetery.
