John Miller
John Miller
John Miller is now blessed to be with Jesus, his Lord and Savior since May 18, 2024, after months of battling sickness and only two weeks with the knowledge that it was cancer.
John was born Sept. 17, 1943, in Dallas, Texas. He was very proud of his graduation from the University of Texas at Austin in 1967. After college, he worked in the oil field for 10 years.
His love of education brought him back to school to receive a master’s degree and a doctorate degree in finance from the University of Houston. While doing this he found his love for teaching and went to teach at the University of Texas at San Antonio, then on to San Jose State University in California.
After this he taught at St Mary’s College in Moraga, California, where he met Chris, who was a textbook saleswoman at the time. They lived in the bay area for about 10 years and then moved back to San Antonio, Texas in 1995.
He discovered an opportunity to transition to grade school teaching and eventually took a job teaching fourth grade in Comfort, Texas. This is where he stayed for 25 years and had planned on retiring after this year.
John focused his faith in Jesus at St. Mark Church with the Rev. Ed Dawkins when they helped at a Billy Graham event and attended a retreat called a Walk to Emmaus. In later years, he became an elder at St. Mark in charge of evangelisms.
As usual, he researched other programs and books which led to building a ministry called “Jesus Loves You.” He grew to love Jesus and wanted others to know how deeply Jesus loves them.
For the last several years, he has distributed bibles, books, toys, candy, fans and bracelets with the name of Jesus on them for adults and children.
When he was in the hospital, he spoke to a nurse who said she didn’t understand the bible. He presented her with the Life Application Study Bible in the New Living Translation and asked for her promise to read it. It was his joy to speak to anyone who would listen about Jesus, and now he is dancing with his Lord in heaven and praising Him forever.
“I just want to keep telling people about Jesus,” John said, after receiving his cancer diagnosis.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 2024, at the Ebensberger Fisher Funeral Home.
