George Davis

Nov. 5, 1924 - May 6, 2024

George Davis, 99, a resident of Heath, Texas, passed away on May 6, 2024, at AvilaCare Memory Care in Heath due to age-related causes.

Born on Nov. 5, 1924, in Boerne, Texas, to Oran Davis and Mary Ellen Saner Davis, George was one of 14 children. Eleven of those children survived to adulthood.

George grew up in a log house during the Depression and learned the value of hard work at an early age. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy when he turned 18, dropped out of high school to fight in World War II and left home for training in San Diego, California.

He served on the USS Elkhorn in the Pacific, earning numerous medals, including the Victory Medal WWII, Asiatic Pacific 1Star Medal, Philippine Liberation 1Star, and Good Conduct Medal. He also became a certified electrician while in the Navy.

When the war was over, he returned home to raise a family and start his own businesses, including PG Auto Parts and El Cajon Auto Electric. He earned numerous awards as a Ford Auto Parts distributor.

George was active in the Boys Club and Kiwanis service organization in San Diego and Rockwall for over 50 years. He loved to hunt, fish, play golf, and play Texas Hold ‘Em.

He was loved by many people as a husband, dad, grandpa, poppa and friend. He had a smile for everyone he met, and he loved people.

He could build almost anything and fix most things. George was a math whiz and could figure out most problems in his head where others needed a calculator. Basically, he was a man of many talents with a huge love for his family, friends and the Lord.

George was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Houston, Harvey, Ben, Joe and Harry; sisters, Effie May, Lucille, Velma, Betty and Mary; sons, Danny and Scott; grandchildren, Tricia Cox and Zachary Davis; wife, Donna Parrish Davis; and stepdaughter, Rhonda Hernandez.

George is survived by his wife, Nita Davis; son, Garry Davis; daughter, Kimberly Davis; sister, Rachel Soles; stepdaughter, Vicky Hilger; stepsons, Tyler Lawless (Amy) and Trent Lawless; grandchildren, Justin Brennen, Tauvin Pursley, Tahvia Pursley, Ricki Warren, Roxann Warren, Sean Davis, Carrie Davis, Lisa Davis, Angela Stanley, Todd Davis, Jason Hernandez, Finley Lawless and Whitney Lawless; and a host of nieces and nephews.
