Adela Reinhard Meckel passed away in Boerne on May 4, 2024, at the age of 95. She was born July 12, 1928, in Twin Sister, Texas, to parents Udo and Appoloni Kneupper Reinhard.
Adela was preceded in death by her husband Eugene Otto Meckel, her parents, three brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by her son, Douglas (Mary) Meckel; her daughters, Dorinda (Bruce) Ellingsworth, Debora (Stephen) Mergele, and Dorothy (James) Mann; grandchildren Kelly Ballengee, Stephen Mergele Jr., Daniel Mergele, Brandon Meckel and Jordan Meckel; and five great-grandchildren.
Adela graduated from Boerne High School in 1946 as secretary of her class before working in her family- owned café on the current site of Mague’s Café. She worked as a switchboard operator for General Telephone and helped convert to the dial system.
She was married May 24, 1947, after Eugene’s return from serving in the Army Air Corps in World War II.
Active in St. Helena’s Episcopal Church, she was a member of the Women of the Church (WOTC), taught Sunday School and volunteered with the church Alter Guild. She was instrumental in the development and running of the annual garage sale for many years.
Adela enjoyed sewing, gardening and cooking. Many Sundays were spent with the family together enjoying Adela’s cooking. She also enjoyed traveling with sister and friends.
The family would like to thank the staff at Heritage Place for their care of Adela in her later years.
A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. May 14, 2024, at Ebensberger Fisher Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. May 15, 2024, at Ebensberger Fisher Funeral Home with the burial to follow at Boerne City Cemetery.
