Wallace “Wally” Whitworth

Wallace Earl Whitworth Jr., affectionately known as “Wally,” passed into eternal rest after a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer, followed by complications from congestive heart failure and Alzheimer’s disease, in Boerne, Texas on April 11, 2024.

Born on May 22, 1940, in Corpus Christi, Texas, he was a proud sixth-generation Texan, tracing his roots back to the Power-Hewetson colony’s arrival in Texas in 1834.

Jean; his children, Kathleen Najvar, Michael W. Whitworth, Patrick E. Whitworth (Jane), Christopher H. Whitworth (Angie), and stepson, Dutch Christopher; his siblings, Betty Menard (Charlie), Peggy Cunningham (Bruce), Bob Whitworth (Carole), Bill Whitworth (Cheryl), Tom Whitworth (Mary Ellen), Jerry Whitworth (Diane), Joe Whitworth (Shelley), and Jack Whitworth (Barbara); as well as eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and a multitude of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Wallace E. Whitworth Sr. and Bernice Bertmann Whitworth; his wife, Marilyn DeCordova Whitworth; and his brother, Dan Whitworth.

Wally’s educational journey began at Cathedral Grade School and Corpus Christi Academy High School, leading to a bachelor’s degree from St. Mary’s University and a master’s degree in social work from Our Lady of The Lake in San Antonio.

Ronald McDonald House for two years after his “first” retirement Wally was also a committed Rotary Club member for more than 50 years and actively participated in Corpus Christi’s Mustangs “Bean Crew.”

Faith, family and friends were Wally’s focus throughout his life. Upon retiring to Boerne with Jean, he engaged with the community through the Table of Knowledge and contributed to the Kendall County Crime Stoppers and the Hill Country Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Centers.

Wally’s love for Texas history was evident in his extensive collection of Texana publications, focusing on South Texas and the wildhorse desert.

Rosary will be recited at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Boerne at 10 a.m. on April 22, 2024, followed by the funeral Mass at 11 a.m. A reception will follow at Ebensberger- Fisher Funeral Home.

A private family burial will take place at Seaside Memorial Park in Corpus Christi on Wednesday. A Celebration of Life, open to all friends and family, will occur on Wednesday, April 24 at 1 p.m. at the Railroad Seafood and Brewery-Downtown, in Corpus Christi.
