Ed Davis: A true Texas treasure

Ed Davis: A true Texas treasure

Editor, Boerne has many things to be proud of: wonderful shopping, dining, a beautiful golf course and the home of the Tootie Pie Company.

You can add another item to the “Boerne Proud” list -- Mr. Ed Davis.

Ed served in WWII in the U.S. Navy, is a proud University of Texas graduate, retired builder, engineer and rancher, and is now quietly spending his retirement in Boerne.

Old-time Boerne residents might remember Ed’s articles in the Boerne Star. He built numerous homes, commercial properties and even a church in Boerne.

Ed and his late wife Virgina were both educated at UT in Austin. Davis is retired in one of his homes he built high over a seasonal creek near Boerne Lake.

Their first house in the Boerne area was located in Pleasant Valley along Highway 46, the house so old it had rifle ports to shoot at any Indians that wanted to attack. The property had one of the first swimming pools that was filled by a natural spring.

At one point Ed and Virgina built a large B&B on the river a block from downtown. I have often said, when it comes to architectural design Ed could give famous architect Frank Loyd Wright a run for his money.

I was honored to attend his 100th birthday party. The man stood up visiting with guests for over three hours. In October of 2024 he turned 101.

If I was on the Boerne Chamber of Commerce or the Boerne City Council, I would declare October 28 as Mr. Ed Davis Day.

As a proud Alzafar Shriner, we love participating in several Boerne parades every year. Maybe someone will ask Ed to be their parade marshal, so Boerne can say “Thank you” to him, for being a part of Boerne history.
