Geneva hoops teams begin second round with big wins over Schertz JP II

The Geneva School of Boerne girls basketball team began the second round of district action last Friday night by hosting Schertz John Paul II.

Both Eagles teams rolled to big wins and remained undefeated in district play.

The Eagles games with Holy Cross scheduled for Tuesday were postponed to a later day. They will host New Braunfels Christian Academy Friday.

Varsity Girls

The Geneva girls moved to 7-0 in district and is 21-4 overall with Friday’s 66-17 victory.

Geneva didn’t waste any time taking control last Friday and raced out to a 26-2 lead by the time the first quarter ended.

The Eagles outscored the Guardians in the second, 21-5, for the 47-7 halftime lead.

NBCA really struggled in the third quarter and didn’t score, while the Eagles eased their foot off the gas pedal and tallied 10 for the 50-point advantage at 57-7.

The Lady Guardians had a strong finish and had their best-scoring quarter of the night with 10 points, while Geneva finished with 9 points in the period.

Maegan Riebel paced the Eagles with 29 points, Kyra Petty added 20 points and Madeline Egbert finished with 10 points.

Grace Detterick had 3 points, Morgan Howard and Sopris Oglesby both chipped in with 2 points apiece.

Detterick grabbed 9 rebounds, Riebel dished out 7 assists, while Egbert, Petty and Riebel all came up with 3 steals.

Varsity Boys

The Geneva boys team began the second round of district play with a 28-point win over the Guardians, 78-50.

Ironically, the Eagles beat the Guardians in the first round by 28 points as well, 88-60, as both teams improved by 10 points.

The Geneva boys are 25-5 overall and 7-0 in district.

DJ Miller led the Guardians with 26 points.
