Boerne Champion visited Alamo Heights last Friday for a district basketball game and really needed a win to help its playoff chances but the Lady Mules went on to defeat the Lady Chargers, 64-52.

The Lady Chargers are 3-8 in district and 15-13 overall and basically need to win out from this point forward with five games left.

Champion hosts Boerne High Wednesday in a game pushed back a day because of the weather. After that, they’ll visit Pieper Friday.

The Chargers turned in a great second quarter last Friday to make a game of it. After falling behind 18-8 in the first quarter, Champion outscored the Mules in the second period, 23-18, and trimmed the lead to 5 points by halftime, 36-31.

The Lady Chargers were in double digits in the third and fourth quarters, but never came close to the 23 they had in the second.

The Mules matched the Charger points in the second half and outscored them over the final two quarters. AH won the third, 16-11, and took the final stanza, 12-10 as Champion went down swinging.

Berkley Hart from Alamo Heights led all scorers after she finished with 25 points.
