Both the Boerne Champion soccer teams took on Smithson Valley last Friday, with the boys at home and the girls on the road.

The Chargers are off Tuesday and then tangle with Alamo Heights Friday.

Varsity Boys

The Champion boys team is still in the hunt for its first district win two games into 26-5A play.

The Chargers hosted the Rangers on Friday and played to a 1-1 draw. Luka Hahn had the goal and Simon Trevino recorded the assist. They also tied Veterans Memorial prior to playing the Rangers.

Champion is still winless in 26-5A but a tie helps as they stand at 0-0-2 in district. The Chargers are 0-4-3 overall and off Wednesday.

Champion visits Alamo Heights Friday. After that, the Chargers host Boerne High next Tuesday as they renew their district rivalry with the Greyhounds. Champion has never lost to the Greyhounds in boys soccer.

Varsity Girls

The Boerne Champion girls soccer team couldn’t get its offense going Friday night and was shutout by Smithson Valley.

The Lady Rangers won last Friday’s district contest in Spring Branch, 4-0.

Champion is 1-1 in league play and is 2-4 overall. The Lady Chargers are off Wednesday because of their bye and resume action Friday by hosting Alamo Heights.

Champion and Boerne High will renew their district rivalry and play each other Tuesday at BISD Stadium.

Before the UIL added a separate 4A classification in soccer, the Lady Greyhounds had to play up a classification as a 5A and the Chargers and Hounds were in the same district for four seasons – or two UIL alignments – before that happened.
