Geneva School of Boerne basketball player Meagan Riebel came close to setting the school scoring record for a second time after her performance Tuesday at home against Castle Hills.
Riebel had the school record at 43 earlier this year, but it was broken by Wyatt Bruss, who had 47 in a late December game.
Riebel was within 7 points of the record after she tallied 40 in Tuesday’s game in helping the Eagles to a 78-21 win over Castle Hills.
Geneva closes out the first round of district play at 6-0 and is 20-4 overall. The Lady Eagles were home Friday to host Schertz John Paul II and visit Holy Cross Tuesday.
Geneva was up big in the first quarter by a football-like score of 24-7. The Eagles outscored Castle Hills in the second 25-9 and took a 49-16 halftime lead.
It was more of the same in the third as Geneva opened up a 70-18 advantage after winning the third quarter, 21-2.
The Eagles eased off in the fourth quarter but still won the final stanza, 8-3.
Riebel went 18 of 23 from the field for 78 percent shooting. She was 4 for 5 from 3-point line and went 14 for 18 from 2-point range for her 40 points with no free throws.
A total of eight Geneva players scored in the game but only Riebel was in double figures. Kyra Petty finished with 8 points, Morgan Howard and Madeline Egbert both netted 7, Payton Boles and Grace Detterick added 5 points apiece, while Reese Smith and Amelia Morgan chipped in 2 points each.
Riebel and Detterick both grabbed 7 rebounds, Egbert dished out 7 assists and came up with 4 steals, Riebel had 6 assists and Howard had 5 assists.
