The Boerne High girls soccer team opened 26-5A action at home Tuesday night and in its first match as a 5A school, the Lady Greyhounds rolled to a mercy- rule victory over Wagner.
Boerne grounded the Thunderbirds, 8-0, to end the match late in the second half.
Starting this year, the UIL allows matches to end if a team is leading by eight goals and this is the second time the BHS girls have ended a match with the mercy rule.
The Lady Hounds are 6-2 overall and 1-0 in district. BHS visited Kerrville Tivy Friday and is scheduled to host Veterans Memorial Tuesday.
In Tuesday’s match, Bella Pettet turned in a hat trick with 3 goals, while Molly Miller, Mahaley Merkins, Sophie Harper and Sophia Namvar all tallied single goals, while Kinsley Sawyer converted a penalty kick after a hand-ball violation in the box by Wagner in the middle of the second half.
Pettet also had an assist, while Sophia Namvar, Avery Ukeiley and Emma Edison all tallied single assists as well for the Lady Greyhounds on Tuesday.
