The Boerne High girls basketball team gained some ground in the 26-5A standings after they defeated one of the teams ahead of them in the district race.

BHS beat Kerrville Tivy Friday in Boerne, 46-38, and closed the gap a little between the two.

The Lady Hounds are 6-4 in district. They are currently sitting in fourth place, just behind Kerrville Tivy at 7-3, but have split their season series with the Lady Antlers.

Boerne High is 15-11 overall and visits Veterans Memorial Tuesday. They’ll host Smithson Valley Friday for Middle School Night.

Tivy had a slow start on Friday and the Lady Hounds took advantage. Kerrville didn’t reach double digit points in the game until the third quarter.

Kerrville only scored four points in the opening period and were trailing the Hounds, 11-4.

The Antlers’ struggles continued in the second and they were held to 5 points, while Boerne knocked in 10 for the 21-9 lead at the break.

Kerrville opened things up in the third and tallied 16 points, while the Lady Hounds scored 13 and the BHS lead was 34-25 at the end of the period.

Tiv made a push in the fourth quarter but not before Boerne had its biggest lead of the game at 41-29. Kerrville went on a 9-3 run and the BHS lead was trimmed to 44-38 but there was only 25 seconds left in the game.

After a Boerne miss, the Lady Antlers had a chance to cut it to three points, but a missed 3 was rebounded by the Lady Hounds.

Boerne’s Savannah Salinas went to the free-throw line with just seven ticks on the clock and sank both foul shots to make it 46-38, which is where it stayed until the final buzzer.

Kerrville had to start fouling in the final quarter to stop the clock as BHS went into a semi-stall. The Lady Hounds went to the free-throw line 12 times and made 10 of their foul shots in the period to ice it.

Salinas scored 12 points and Chloe Donnell finished with 11 points and the duo combined for 17 second- half points. Salinas and Donnell both went 2 for 2 at the line in the final stanza.

Oleyvia Ramos netted 9 points and made a free throw in the fourth quarter, Meredith Mcloud had 7 points, all in the first half, Addison Saur was 4 for 4 at the line in the final stanza and scored 6 points and Jenna Ruede made a free throw in the fourth.
