After a long non-district schedule, the Comfort High boys teams finally kicked off district action last Friday night at home.
Comfort hosted Ingram in an IH-10 rivalry and fell to the Warriors, 56-44.
The Bobcats are 13-10 overall and start league play at 0-1. Comfort visited Llano Tuesday and hosts that bunch from Brady on Friday.
Both the Cats and Warriors were in double digits in the first three periods. Ingram was leading Comfort, 26-22, at halftime but had a great third quarter and outscored CHS, 21-13, and bumped its advantage to 47-35.
The teams traded buckets in the final stanza with 9 points apiece.
Jaydin Steward led the Cats with 14 points, 9 rebounds and 3 steals, Omar Rivera added 11 points, Jackson Dear finished with 8 points, Jared Valadez had 5, while Chris Kessov and Jovani Zapata dropped in 3 points apiece.
Zapata dished out 4 assists and had 3 steals.
Comfort Deer
Ingram defeated the Comfort girls last Friday, 34-27.
The Deer slip to 1-2 in district and are 7-12 overall.
Comfort visited Llano Tuesday and is home Friday against Brady to close out the first round.
Friday’s game changed in the second stanza. The Deer were up 12-2 when the quarter opened but were outscored by Ingram, 18-7, and were trailing at halftime, 20-19.
The Warriors won the third, 9-6, and pulled ahead, 29-25, and then held the Deer to 2 points in the final quarter, while they scored 5.
Jael Hernandez led the Deer team with 7 points, Jaelyn Ruelas added 6, Molly Gowan and Alexa Lozano both scored 5 and Danielle Ruelas and Cynthis Leos netted 2 apiece.
Gowan grabbed 10 rebounds and Hernandez had 3 assists.
