Before beginning district play this week, the Boerne Champion boys soccer team played in the Harlandale Tournament last weekend.
The Chargers dropped all three matches they played in at the Harlandale event, but all three losses came by only one goal.
Champion is 0-4-1 overall and opened district play this week. On Tuesday they were at Veterans Memorial and on Friday they’ll host Smithson Valley, 7 p.m.
At the tourney, Jefferson edged the Champion boys 1-0 after the Mustangs tallied a goal in the 17th minute of the first half.
Later that day, the Chargers fell to Lanier, 2-1, after the Voks knocked in a late goal.
Lanier got on the board first with a goal in the 24th minute for the 1-0 lead, but the Chargers were able to tie it at 1-1.
Champion’s Joey Toczysnki recorded a goal on the assist from Alister Clyne 14 minutes into the second half to knot it up.
It stayed there until the Voks pushed in the game winner with four minutes left in the contest and held on for the 2-1 win.
On Saturday, Champion took on Laredo Martin and dropped the match in a low-scoring contest, 1-0. Laredo Martin’s goal came one minute into the second half.
